When You’re Ready for MCC – We’ll Be Ready For You
When Sam Khalid found out he was going to be a father he decided to go to medical school. Not your typical reaction to fatherhood, but Sam had already decided that his job in retail wasn’t enough. “All I needed was that catalyst, I wanted to make a good life for my family,” he said.
“I had always wanted to go to medical school, but right out of high school I got a good job that paid pretty well and it seemed enough. After a while my wife and I were living pay check to pay check and then we found out we were pregnant – with twins! I knew then I had to get started on my education,” Khalid said.
First stop, Mott Community College. Sam graduated from the Honors College with highest honors. Also, as a result of attending MCC, Sam was nominated and received the Seimens scholarship through the Aspen Institute, helping to pay for his bachelor’s degree. After MCC, Khalid transferred to the University of Michigan-Flint in 2014 to continue to prepare for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). “The academic foundation I received at MCC was amazingly strong,” he said. “When I arrived at UM-Flint I was perfectly prepared for the advanced science and mathematics classes.”
Khalid has been accepted into the American University of Antigua (AUA) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the Fall 2018 semester.
