In 2018 the Flint Promise became a reality. The Flint Promise is a local public-private partnership focused on making at least two years of college free for every high school graduate living in the City of Flint. The Consumers Energy Foundation and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores have pledged $1 million each to start the Flint Promise program. The Community Foundation of Greater Flint serves as the Flint Promise fiduciary and it is administered by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce.

At Mott Community College we feel the Flint Promise will open doors. It will allow students to pursue their academic and career goals by providing them a tuition-free pathway toward completion of an associate’s degree or certificate at Mott Community College. Completing that degree puts them on a fast-track to a career so they can build a better life for themselves and their families.

The Flint Promise is available to students who live inside the City of Flint, have a GPA of 1.8 or better, and who graduate from a public, charter, private, parochial high school or GED program within the City of Flint, including:

  • Accelerated Learning Academy
  • Flint Northwestern High School
  • Flint Southwestern Classical Academy
  • Flint/Genesee Job Corps
  • Gateway to College – Mott Community College
  • Genesee Early College
  • International Academy of Flint
  • Michigan School for the Deaf
  • Mott Middle College
  • Powers Catholic High School
  • WAY Academy
